Looking to streamline procurement processes? Us too!

That’s why the University of Illinois System, the University of New Mexico, and the UNT System lead a formal RFQ to select a marketplace provider that could integrate with our e-commerce platforms using a punch-out catalog. This collaborative effort resulted in the award to Amazon Business.

To help other public institutions implement similar purchasing system improvements, you can now benefit from the award through a process commonly known as piggybacking.

Award vs Contract

🔹 The award refers to the outcome of a public RFQ process that selected Amazon Business as the qualified provider.

🔹 The contract is something your institution can enable directly with Amazon Business.

So, when we say “piggyback,” we mean on the award—not the contract.

Why Piggyback?

Here’s why this might be a great move for your institution:

  • Time Savings
The public solicitation, evaluation, and award process is already complete. That means your team skips the RFP grind.
  • No Contract Administration Fees (CAF)
Unlike GPOs (Group Purchasing Organizations), this award does not include a fee structure for the original institutions—and you benefit from that too.
  • Mission-Driven Collaboration
This award was developed purely to benefit higher education procurement—not for commercial gain.
  • Amazon Business Prime Exclusive Benefits
For members of the National Association of Educational Procurement (NAEP), the annual Amazon Business Prime fee is waived.

What You’ll Need

To piggyback on this award, most institutions will just need two documents:

  1.  A copy of the RFQ
  2. A copy of the Award Letter

Once you have those in hand, please reach out to your Amazon Business Account Executive for next steps.
