If your department will be hiring an employee from out-of-state, or if an existing employee will be relocating to another state, please contact Tax Reporting & Compliance, by emailing tax@untsystem.edu. Adequate time (average 2 months) will be needed to register and become an employer in additional states.

The following states do not levy a state income tax; however, a member institution would still need to register as an employer prior to hiring, if not already registered:

  • Alaska
  • Florida
  • Nevada
  • New Hampshire
  • South Dakota
  • Tennessee
  • Washington
  • Wyoming

Important note: Employees that have relocated to Texas, should not have any state income tax deductions on their paycheck. Employees that have relocated to Texas, that used an out-of-state address during onboarding, can contact the Tax Department to confirm that their state tax record has been updated to Texas.
